Numerous faults could occur with the display on a laptop resulting in the following:-

• Physical damage/cracked screen - similar looking to crazy paving
• Dark or unlit images.
• Coloured bars - Lines or strange characters on the screen.

Screen replacement can be expensive, but, not every fault with the display is caused by or requires a replacement screen.
Faults can also be caused by the backlight, mainboard or even the connecting cables.

A common fault especially over time is that the power connector on the laptop becomes either temperamental or stops working completely.

This can result in:-

• Battery not charging properly or even at all.
• Laptop randomly powering off when powered from the wall.

This is often caused by poor design or components placing the stress of insertion, removal and jarring of the cable on the connectors solder joints on the mainboard.

Hard Drive faults are another common issue with Laptops especially if the Laptop is bumbed or jarred whilst on.

This can often lead to:-

• Sluggish computer
• Data Corruption
• Repeated clicking or whiring noises from the Laptop
• Laptop fails to boot into Operating system or reports HDD Faults at boot-up

If caught early enough with less severe cases data corruption or loss can be minimised.

In the majority of cases a replacement Hard Drive will be required, though, in some small instances the issue is caused by the mainboard, requiring its replacement.

When possible we will always endevour to save what data we can (documents, photo's etc) from the original Hard Drive.

Notes:
In order to re-install any licensed operating system (e.g. Windows XP, Vista etc.), there must either be a license sticker attached to the Laptop or you must have a valid license for that Laptop in your possesion which you can provide us with

If you do not have a License for an operating system we can either sell you a retail license or install a license free operating system such as Ubuntu.

The optical drives in Laptops are quite fragile and great care must be taken when inserting and removing media.

Common Issues are:-

• Bent tray rails
• Broken drawer
• Damaged or dirty optics

In many cases a replacement drive will be required. An exact replacement would be sought in order for the Fascia's to sit correctly.

If fluid of any descrition gets into your Laptop remove the power immediatly, turn it off and remove the battery, then, try to drain as much fluid from the Laptop as possible.

Ebrey-IT will dismantle your Laptop, clean any spills from the inside direclty off the compoents and once completed will power up and test the Laptop fully to asses for any damage.

Fluid of any description can render your Laptop useless.
Even it it seems to work fine after a period of drying the fluid will probably corrode the motherboard and other other components eventually rendering the Latop beyond repair.

Due to the time involved in completely dismantling and cleaning a Laptop it will cost an additional £10 on top of our normal Laptop repair evaluation fee.

The keyboard and mouse pad are about the most used and abused element of any Laptop.

Suffering:-

• Minor spills
• Crumbs, dust and other foreign matter.
• Repeated use or excessive force

Eventually they can begin to stick, loose sensitivity, become clunky, keys detatch from the keyboard or just stop working all together.

Cables connecting the keyboard or mouse pad can even become loose over time due to flexing of the laptop during use.

In the majority of cases a replacement keyboard or mouse pad will solve most issues provided they are not created by a mainboard fault.
