In 2009 Ebrey-IT worked along side MicroVideo Shrewsbury to provide On-Site Wifi and Live Internet video streaming from the Main StageQuick Facts: -
- Hundreds of people on-site utilised the WiFi. Gaining access through Iphones, Blackberries, Netbooks and Laptops to send email, check football results and update others on goings on via facebook.
- Across the Globe from Eastern Europe to Canada, US, South America and Australia hundreds of people logged on to watch the Main Stage performances Live as the artists played to packed audiences.
Setup:-
- Due to the need for reliable Internet access with low contention satelite was used to provide Internet conectivity directly on-site at the festival. The picture (right) shows where we positioned the dish and the line of site to EutelSat W1 10o East.
- All Internet connections were routed through a gateway server to control bandwidth during performances to ensure smooth delivery of the video stream.
- The A/V feed from the production team at MicroVideo was encoded into Windows Media streamed to a Content Delivery Network and played through an embedded player on the Folk Festival Website curtesy of Paul from Virtual Shropshire.
- Neil from Regency Computers provided an additional server hosted on-site for any festival goes who wanted to watch the feed from the comforts of their tent or camper.
In the future Ebrey-IT plans to deliver streamed content using H.264/AAC Baseline 3.1 to enable steaming to Flash players and other devices as the format rapidly becomes one of the most popular for Internet video content delivery.
